Richard J. "Dick" Larson

Richard Joseph "Dick" Larson, 93 died, Thurs., Oct. 13, 2011 surrounded by family in OSF Medical Center. Born Oct. 30, 1917 in Rockford, IL son of Louis C. and Lettie (Thorpe) Larson. Dick graduated from Rockford Central High School. Married Veronica "Ronnie" Letkusky in Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Rockford on May 21, 1944. She predeceased him Feb. 20, 2007. Employed 44 years at Amerock, retiring in 1981. Veteran of WWII serving in U.S. Army Air Corps 1942-1945. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, member of YMCA'S Retired Men's Club where he was in charge of their Christmas Tree Sales, and a member of the Ostomy Club. Dick was an avid golfer and volunteer, Cubs fan, and loved his garden. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Susan Kay Stavros, San Diego, CA; Barbara Beth (John) Manning of Rockford; son, Richard James "Rick" (Ann Somers) Larson of Rockford. Grandsons, Nicholas Peter (Debbora) Stavros of Powder Springs, GA; Christopher Richard Stavros, San Diego, CA, Samuel Joseph Stavros (Jeff Bastoni), Santa Rosa, CA; granddaughter: Kelly Elizabeth Manning of Rockford; great-grandson: Nicholas Richard Stavros of Powder Springs, GA; great-granddaughter: Hailey Bastoni-Stavros, Santa Rosa, CA. and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, sister, Lenore Larson and brother, Lyman A. Larson. The family wishes to thank special friend Fr. David Beauvais, Dr. Pedro de Guzman, OSF NICU, Fourth Floor West, Caregivers Kastyte, Klaudia and Hidi for their loving and special care.
Mass of the Christian Burial 11:00 am, Sat. Oct. 15, 2011 in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St., Rockford, IL 61107 with visitation from 9 am to time of Mass; Fr. Joachim Tyrtania (Parochial Vicar) officiating. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL 61107.
