Nora Marie (Welch) Smith

Nora Marie Smith or Rockford, IL, passed away on March 31st, 2023 at the age of 93. Born July 28th, 1929 to Wesley and Florence (Roop) Welch, Nora was one of six children. Dedicated and hard worker, she worked for J.L. Clark for 39 years, during which time she fulfilled a life-long dream of being a beautician, graduating from Alberto’s School of Cosmetology. As such, she worked part time at Neva’s Cut and Curl on Auburn St. Nora was an active woman and enjoyed her time as a member of the Blackhawk Bicycle Club, where she and her husband, Bill, could often be seen riding their tandem bicycle on club rides including a one time 100 mile ride to Lake Geneva. The two were very much in love. They married June 6th, 1971, and went on to spend a happy retirement together, with twenty years snow birding in Harlingen, TX, where a Nora enjoyed hosting for the bluegrass jams that Bill organized and played in. They made many friends throughout the Untied States and Canada. Nora kept an immaculate and welcoming home. She was an excellent cook and was known for bringing brownies to nearly every family event she attended. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nora was predeceased by her husband, William Smith,  one sister, and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Alan) Kennedy, step-sons Eric (Lori) Smith, Greg (Jill) Smith, Brian Smith, grandchildren Dan (Danielle) Smith, and Sandra (Dave) Fenton, and many great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 6th, 2023, time 12 noon, and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of service at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 North Sixth Street, Rockford, IL. 61107.
