ROCKFORD - Mildred V. Smith, 99, died at 4:55 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 in Rosewood Care Center. Born June 11, 1911 in Red Wing, MN, the daughter of Victor and Hulda (Bylander) Malmberg. She married Hiram J. Smith in Rockford on Aug. 6, 1932. He predeceased her Oct. 18, 1971. Mildred worked in the cafeteria at West High School for 21 years. She was an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Circle, Rod and Staff Circle, and the Caring and Sharing Circle. She was also a former Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include 4 grandchildren: Cheryl (Keith) Romine of Rockford, Steve (Sonia) Smith of Belvidere, Kevin Smith of Belvidere, and Brian (Becky) Smith of Roscoe; 8 great-grandchildren: Grant, Jared & Ashton Romine, Brittani & Jordan Smith and Natalia Rodriguez, Olivia & Kaitlyn Smith, and Addison Smith; a sister, Arlene Perkins of Rockford, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Smith of Belvidere, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son, Robert (Bob), a sister, and 2 brothers.
Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1829 N. Rockton Ave., with Rev. Kathryn Whitney officiating. Visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Memorials to the church. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford.
