Melanie Lyn Monroe

Melanie L. Monroe, 49, a loving daughter, beautiful sister, amazing mother, and Nana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11th, 2025. Melanie was born on December 14th, 1975, in Rockford, IL, to Karen (Hecker) Schmidt.

Melanie is no longer in pain after her courageous 5-year battle with Cancer. 

Melanie was a beautiful person both inside and out. She always did for others and never expected anything in return. Melanie’s piercing blue eyes and radiant smile will never be forgotten. Melanie was a passionate collector of clowns and enjoyed classic cars, but nothing was more important than wholeheartedly loving her children, her family, her friends, and all the kids she picked up along the way.

Melanie is survived by her mother, Karen (Hecker) Schmidt; children Nathan Monroe, Faith Monroe, and Jacob Monroe; grandchildren Jack, Tyrion, Francis, Kane, and Abel; siblings Tisha (Jesse) Hendricks and Shane Monroe; nephews Brian Hendricks and David Hendricks; and adored grand-puppy Moose.

Melanie was preceded in death by her stepfather Robert N. Schmidt Jr; Grandmother Sylvia (Finley) Malott and Chad Shaw.

Melanie will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 19th, 2025, at 6 PM at Sundberg Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held from 4 PM until service time. 

 In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
