She was preceded in death by her mother Theodora “Teddy” Smafield, father Ralph Smafield, brother George Smafield, and son Jeremy Green. Survived by daughters Emily (Jared) Quesnell, Elizabeth Green, two grandchildren, and three nephews.
Mary’s mother Teddy was the first-ever winner of the Pillsbury Bake-Off in 1949, which gave Ralph and Teddy enough financial security to choose to have a second child, Mary, who came into the world on September 24, 1951. Mary was very close to her parents and would eventually run a small printing company with them in Rockford, IL.
Mary graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1973. She earned a degree in English and was active in their drama program. Mary was a lifelong Beatles fan, an animal lover, and she enjoyed researching her family’s ancestry.
A private burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, IL, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved son Jeremy."
