Marlene Joyce Maxwell, 88, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her home on October 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on December 7, 1936, in Hastings, Iowa, she was the oldest child of Everett and Maxine Maxwell, who predeceased her.
Marlene was a much-loved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Marlene led a life dedicated to her Savior, Jesus Christ, her church community, and her family. She taught Sunday school for many years at Central Christian Church and volunteered in the nursery, kitchen, or wherever help was needed.
Marlene had several different positions throughout her working career. She greatly enjoyed her time in admissions at Swedish American Hospital and her role at Rockford’s Head Start program. Upon retirement from Head Start, she was awarded a key to the City of Rockford for her hard work and dedication to the Head Start Program. Perhaps her greatest business accomplishment was co-founding Dip N’ Good Dips.
Marlene greatly valued a strong work ethic. Growing up on a farm, she loved vegetable gardening, being outdoors, and working on projects. She loved refinishing furniture for her family and her home. She was always ready for a competitive game of cards and enjoyed bowling.
Marlene’s enduring legacy will live on through her beloved husband of 65 years, Harvey; her sister, Marian Bond, her oldest son, David Lehman (Cindy), Craig Lehman (Suzie) and her daughter, Krista Lehman; her treasured grandchildren, JD Lehman (Meg) and Matthew Lehman (Melissa), great grandchild, Brooks Lehman and many nieces and nephews.
With the love of Christ in her heart, Marlene was a woman of integrity, kindness, and warmth, and she will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Marlene is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Maxwell. Special recognition to Linda Held, who was like a daughter to her and her Mercy Health Hospice Nurse, Amy.
Services will be announced at a later time.
