Lorraine Ann Urbanec, 70, died shortly before midnight on Friday, August 1, 2025, in Hazel Crest, IL, after a long illness. Born Lorraine Ann Scanlan on August 22, 1954, at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL. Her parents are Edna Lorraine Scanlan (Cook) of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, and John Owen Scanlan of Chicago, IL. She was a lifelong resident of Rockford, graduating from Guilford High School in 1972. Having given birth to 2 children, Robert Matthew Britt and Rosalind Johnson, she made the difficult decision to lovingly and selflessly place her children for adoption. Lorraine was a talented woman skilled in cooking, writing, ceramics, and the art of crochet, where she was masterful, having hand-knit quilts, blankets, hats, slippers, mittens, and much more. She is survived by her mother Edna Ashman of Rockford, brother Anthony “John” (Chawn) Scanlan of Englewood, FL, son Matthew (Tracy) Ashman of Machesney Park, nephew Jeffrey (Tabitha) Scanlan of Byron, niece Megan Scanlan of Stillman Valley, granddaughters; Jordan (Adrian) Malady of Machesney Park and Alyssa (Roger) Morris of Rockton, grandsons; Tyler Rothe of Machesney Park, Damon Ashman (Alissa Fay) of Machesney Park and Lucas Ashman of Machesney Park and several aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her beloved dog Blaze. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael, her father, her stepfather, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Graveside service will be held at New Milford Cemetery in Rockford on Monday, August 11, at noon. Funeral services are being provided by Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N. 6th Street, Rockford, IL 61107.
