Jose Villegas Obituary

Jose Villegas, age 82, of Rockford, Illinois, and formerly of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, passed away peacefully in the care of his family on Friday, May 22nd, 2026. Born to Pedro and Pilar (Herrera) Villegas on December 10th, 1943, in Allende, Jalisco, Mexico, Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took great pride in designing and building his own home in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, alongside his wife at the time. Jose's legacy is one of hard work, devotion to family, and a deep connection to his roots.

He is survived by his children: Rosa Maria Medina, Mario Villegas Martinez, Estela Villegas Martinez, Elva Torres, Jose Alfredo Villegas Martinez, Margarita Porter, and Noe Ivan Villegas Martinez; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Jose is also survived by his siblings: Maria del Refugio Villegas, Maria Teresa Villegas, and Maria Villegas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Pilar Villegas; his siblings, Miguel Villegas, Maria Trinidad Villegas, and Maria Guadalupe Villegas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Rockford, IL, at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29th, 2026. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Rockford. Sundberg Funeral Home is caring for the family. Condolences may be left at sundbergfuneralhome.com.

José Villegas, de 82 años, de Rockford, Illinois, y anteriormente de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, falleció pacíficamente al cuidado de su familia el sábado 22 de mayo de 2026. Nacido del matrimonio de Pedro y Pilar (Herrera) Villegas el 10 de diciembre de 1943 en Allende, Jalisco, México, José fue un esposo, padre, abuelo y bisabuelo devoto. Se enorgullecía enormemente de haber diseñado y construido su propio hogar en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, junto a quien fuera su esposa en aquel entonces. El legado de José es uno de arduo trabajo, devoción a la familia y una profunda conexión con sus raíces. Le sobreviven sus hijos: Rosa María Medina, Mario Villegas Martínez, Estela Villegas Martínez, Elva Torres, José Alfredo Villegas Martínez, Margarita Porter y Noé Iván Villegas Martínez; 21 nietos; y 23 bisnietos. A José también le sobreviven sus hermanos: María del Refugio Villegas, María Teresa Villegas y María Villegas. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Pedro y Pilar Villegas; y sus hermanos, Miguel Villegas, María Trinidad Villegas y María Guadalupe Villegas. Se celebrará una Misa de Exequias en la Iglesia Católica de los Santos Pedro y Pablo (Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church), en Rockford, IL, a las 10:00 a. m. del jueves 29 de mayo de 2026.
