John es, Jr. Obituary

MACHESNEY PARK - John (Jon) Earl Jones, Jr., 84, died at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 in Rockford Memorial Hospital ER. He was born Dec. 1, 1926 in Indianolia, MS, an only child of John Earl Jones, Sr. and Josephine Mildred (Johnson) Jones, (both predeceased.) Mr. Jones, his mother and father were most recently recognized as a Pioneer African-American family in Indianolia, MS, who left a monument for entertainment - Club Ebony. John lived in Rockford 54 years, coming from Chicago, IL to care for his mother. He lived in Chicago for 30 years and was the retired Chicago Business Owner of Jon-Ya's Health and Beauty Salon, on East 73rd St. Mr. Jones was also a Veteran of WWII and the recipient of various metals, with duty in the continental and foreign service. He was also active in various Rockford Community Organizations until his death. He was a graduate of Indianolia, MS High School and became a Licensed Business Owner in 1947.
Jon is survived by his wife, La Fayetta (Gaines) Jones, Gary, IN whom he married on Dec. 21, 1976 and 3 stepchildren. He is also survived by: Daughters: Mrs. Toni (Paul) Y. Davenport, Mettawa, IL and Mrs. Thema (Tyron) Robinson, Rockford, IL; Grandsons: Deon Lamont (Theresa) Davenport, Rockford, IL; Jason Brown, Riverside, CA, and Erik Paul (LaTonya) Davenport, Gary, IN.
Granddaughters: Nicole Brown-Campbell, Riverside, CA and Lisa Ann Davenport, Portage, IN; Great-grandchildren: Kylie and Kalan Campbell and Taylor Robinson.
A memorial service will be help at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N. Sixth St. Rockford, IL. Inurnment will be private.
