John Raudonis, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Provena Cor Mariae Center. John was born March 12, 1918 in Spring Valley, Illinois, the son of Gabriel and Tillie Raudonis. John married Evelyn Slitkas on January 12, 1946 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage. Evelyn predeceased him on April 25, 2008. John served in the Atlantic with the merchant marines during WWII. He worked as a tool maker for 43 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed his work and was very loyal to his employer Eclipse Inc. The Perks family has repaid his loyalty during his retirement. John was a very active member of the YMCA Retires Club and worked on many fund raisers. He was active in scouting and saw many of his boys become successful individuals. John was an avid golfer, fisherman, bowler, hiker, and extensive world traveler. He was someone who truly enjoyed life and was a superb role model to his sons and those who knew him. He is survived by his sons, Brad (Cheri) Raudonis of Rockford and Scott of Portland, Oregon, grandsons Brian (Tina) Raudonis and Jason (Alisha) Raudonis both of Rockford, granddaughter Megan (Dave) Perry of Virginia Beach, Virginia, great-grandchildren, Elijah, Skylar, Zoe, Rheanna, Victoria, Haley, Paige, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Phil, Al, Pete, and Louis Raudonis, and sisters Isabelle and Betty. Special thanks to Tom and Norma Conti for their loving support and friendship and the nursing staff at Provena Cor Mariae and the VNA Hospice nurses.
Memorial Service 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18th in Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL. Gathering of friends and family one hour prior to service.
