John E. Poshka, 78, passed away at 11:43 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 in Arizona, John was born Dec. 8, 1933 in Rockford, the son of John and Olga Poshka. He married the former Margaret Inman on Oct. 14, 1961, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Rockford. John had worked at Rockford Machine Tool, Woodward Governor Co., and Sundberg Funeral Home. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge #166, Freeport Consistory, Tebala Shrine, Loves Park Order of the Eastern Star, Order of Ameranth, Oriental White Shrine #5, Moose Lodge, and Eagles Club. Survivors include his wife Margaret, a daughter, Rhonda (Roger) Gates, a son, Robert (Linda) Poshka, grandsons, Jacob, Andrew, and Nicholas Poshka, and Sharrod Gates, a sister, Evelyn Abate, and brothers, Donald (Joyce) Poshka, and Ray Poshka, and several nieces and nephews and his special pet, Princess. John's life was devoted to his family, God and church family, and his friends. If you needed help, John was always there for you.
Visitation from noon - 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 in Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford. Masonic service to begin at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m., with interment to follow at Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
