John A. Heavlin, 72, died at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2023, in his home after a lengthy illness. Born February 24, 1951, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Wayne and Betty (Campbell) Heavlin. John married Patricia L. Kellum (Bishop) on January 17, 1970, in Rockford, Illinois. He was employed as a maintenance man at Longview Fiber for 30 years and as a Millwright for 18 years. He also was self-employed for 25 years cutting trees. John's love was being an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, spending time with grandkids, and helping other people.
He is survived by his son John Heavlin Jr. of Rockford, his daughter Paula (Brian) Patterson of Rockford, sister Linda Heavlin of Rockford. Grandchildren Samantha Heavlin, Jessica Heavlin, Brian (Nichole) Patterson, Krystal (Trevor) Darrow, 3 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
They are preceded by parents Wayne and Betty Heavlin, brother Wayne Heavlin Jr, and sister Julie Salyers. Visitation from 5-7 pm Thursday, December 28th, 2023, in Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL. 61107 Condolences can be sent to sundbergfh.com.
