Jessie I. Pemberton, 83, a 60-year resident of Rockford, died at 9:30 PM, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah after a brief illness. He was born March 19, 1927 in Biggers, Arkansas, son of Elbert and Laura Belcher Pemberton. He served in the 503rd Military Police Battalion of the U. S. Army in Italy at the end of WW II. He married Dora Lee Robinson on December 8, 1947 in Charleston, MO. He was employed as a machinist at Rockford Products from 1951 until retirement in 1989. He was an active member of the Rockford First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until his move to Utah in early 2010. The surviving family includes his daughter Martha A. (Keith) Taylor, Plano, TX and his son Stephen W. (Julie) Pemberton of Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren - Brian, Jeffrey, Gregory, Douglas and Bradford Taylor; Jennifer Taylor Bringhurst; Phillip, Jessica, Kendra, Nicole and Connor Pemberton. There are also seventeen great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include his two sisters - Dorothy (David) Sitton of Winnebago, IL and Delois Wicker of Charleston, MO; his brother Kenneth (Brenda) Pemberton of Cape Girardeau, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Dora who passed away in 1991. He is also predeceased by his parents, his brother James Pemberton and his sister Geneva Pemberton Webb.
Friends may call at Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, November 26th. Services at 10 AM on Saturday, November 27th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 620 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford with Bishop Michael Polizzotto officiating.
