Jacquelyn “Jackie” Pugh-Rodgers Obituary

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Pugh-Rodgers

Born April 10, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated in 1969 from Melrose High School in Memphis with classmates that she remained in close communication. Jackie had a long career of service at the VA Medical Centers in both Memphis and North Chicago, Illinois. She passed unexpectedly on December 15th, 2022, in Rockford, Illinois.

Jackie was preceded in death by her two sons, Jeffrey and Jamal; mother and father Rufus and Jimmie Ruth; sisters Charlene Hibbler and Olivia Barksdale; brother John Pugh; and the true love of her life, her husband Harold Rodgers. She is survived in life by her son Rufus Andrew; daughter Jocasta Lynette, sisters Sanell Chism, Valarie Briggs, and Linda Stiger; 5 grandchildren (Recardo, Juluis, J’Neiya, J’Naiza, and Kourtney); 9 great-grandchildren (Aaliyah, Jamal, Julissa, Khy’Reese, Ka’Niyah, k’Chanel, Shyloh, Kyng, and Ezra), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was a lover of all animals, especially her 5 puppies that she shared various years of her life. She made sure all her puppies lived full and happy lives. They travel many of the states in this country on the road with her as she enjoyed a good road trip. There was almost always a puppy either in the passage seat or in her lap.

She enjoyed cooking and arts / crafts such as costume jewelry. During her retirement years she could easily be found thrifting at the local thrift shops looking for hidden treasures, at the dog park with one of her treasured puppies, doing some internet shopping, or in front of her television watching an episode of Perry Mason, Star Trek, In the Heat of the Night, or Matlock.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
