Gwendolyn (Horst) Johnson

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Johnson, 90, of Rockford, IL. died Monday, May 6th, 2024, at Independence Village in Rockford. She was born on July 8th, 1933, in Rockford to Mansfield & Loretta (Gustafson) Horst. Gwen was a graduate of East High School class of 1951. She married Earl E. Johnson on November 8th, 1958. She worked for First Federal Savings in Loan for 41 years.

Gwen met her husband roller skating and loved to dance together at parties. They enjoyed traveling together all over the United States and Canada in their motor home and car. They were known as “The Twins” because when you saw one, you saw the other. They were avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fans. But mostly Earl and Gwen enjoyed the company of each other.

She is survived by her stepdaughter Phyllis DeGrave, Lincoln, NE. a daughter-in-law Georgia in South Carolina, and Brother David (Sheila) Horst, Rockford, IL. Five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Earl, and two sons, Robert & Curtis Johnson.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, time 11:00 a.m. at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 North Sixth Street, Rockford, IL. 61107. Friends may visit on the day of the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Condolences can be made to sundbergfh.com
