Glenda Ann Carter passed away peacefully on October 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving daughters. Glenda was born on October 31st, 1956, in Benton Harbor Michigan to Raymond and Wilma Carter. She attended Guilford High School and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Rockford University in 2002. She worked as an emergency room nurse at Swedish American Hospital, Saint Anthony Hospital, and as a school nurse for many years. She was continuing her education to become a nurse practitioner before she was diagnosed with early onset dementia.
She married Greg Schwanke in 1981 and had two daughters Alisha and Kristina.
She was a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and several clubs in the local area. Glenda was always cooking and preparing the best meals, hosting holidays with Halloween being “Glenda the good witch’s”, favorite holiday. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, dancing, watching football and decorating. Seeing her children succeed and happy were her greatest joys in life. Her contagious smile will be greatly missed by many especially by her daughters Alisha and Kristina and her grandchildren.
Survived by Her daughters Alisha Wachowiak (Chris) Kristina Short (Khad), son in law Chris Short, grand children Maddox and Blake Wachowiak and Nolan Short. Aunts, nieces, and nephews. Plus, several cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Wilma Carter, Brother Ron, and Donnie Carter.

The funeral service for Glenda Carter will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 North Sixth Street, Rockford, Illinois 61107. The visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
