Fredie Derrington Obituary

Fredie Delaine Derrington, 72, of Winnebago, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Generations, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 12, 1953, in Rockford, he was the son of Fred R. and Alaray L. (Dunn) Derrington. Fred graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1971, and in 1983, he married Kimberly McDonald. Fred valued hard work and took great pride in his ability to create. As a master mold maker and designer, he dedicated his career to crafting molds for a variety of applications, from everyday household items to complex medical devices. His passion for building extended beyond his profession; he often tackled side projects, designing and welding unique stands to showcase invaluable artwork and historical artifacts. His skill, precision, and commitment were evident in every piece he crafted. Outside of work, Fred had a range of hobbies that reflected his mechanical talent and love for craftsmanship. He enjoyed rebuilding classic cars, target shooting with friends, and both repairing and collecting firearms. Above all, Fred cherished the relationships in his life. He was a loyal friend and devoted family man, loving deeply and without reservation. His daughters and grandchildren were his greatest joys, and he was always eager to support and care for them. Fred's strength, generosity, and unwavering love will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Caitlin (Derrington) Hardcastle and Chelsea (Derrington) Smith, and husband Dustin Hardcastle. Fred is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Atticus Hardcastle, Stella Smith, and Rowan Smith, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Derrington) Beckington and Robert Beckington, along with many nieces and nephews. Fredie was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly (McDonald) Derrington; his father, Fred Ray Derrington; his mother, Alaray (Dunn) Derrington; his brother, Earmon Derrington; and his sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Derrington) Nutt and Norman Nutt. Fred's legacy of love and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
