Eugene R. Quinn

Eugene R. Quinn, 79, died at 1:05 p.m., Tues., July 20, 2010 in Provena St. Anne Center after a brief illness. Born April 5, 1931 in Monroe, WI., the son of James and L. Leona (Larson) Quinn. He married Carolyn J. Johnson in Rockford on July 18, 1953. Gene began his career in management at Woodward Governor Co. He became involved with the Republican Party in Winnebago County in 1966. In 1969, he was appointed aide to then Mayor Ben Schleicher. In 1972, he was elected Winnebago Co. Recorder and served for 20 years. In 1985, Gene ran for Mayor of Rockford and was narrowly defeated. In 1992, he was elected first Winnebago Co. Board Chairman and served until 1996. He also served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for many years and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Gene served as Past Pres. of: Illinois County Clerk and Recorders Assoc., Downtown Kiwanis Club, and John Ericsson Republican League. He was a member of the University Club, and served on the St. Anthony Hospital Advisory Board, United Way Board, and other organizations too numerous to mention. Gene was a life-long public servant.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, daughters, Diane (Dennis) Roop of Loves Park, and Jannice (David) Bubnack, of Loves Park, grandchildren, Andrew Roop, Matthew (Karen) Roop, Kaila Bubnack, and Craig Bubnack, brothers, Gary (Doris) Quinn, Gayle Quinn, B.J. Quinn, and Terry (Carol) Quinn, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, and a son, Doug Quinn.
Mass at 10:30 a.m., Sat., July 24, 2010 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4407 Highcrest Rd., with Msgr. David D. Kagan as celebrant. Visitation at the church from 7 - 9:00 p.m., on Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Eugene R. Quinn Memorial Fund.
