Edward W. "Big Ed" McCarthy passed away on February 20, 2011 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family, after a battle with metastatic lung cancer. He was born September 5, 1950, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, son of Emmett and Marie McCarthy He was the loving husband of Cindy Dion for 25 years, who shared a loving companion Buddy; special niece Danielle Duenas, who was like a daughter to Ed and Cindy; brother of Collette (Tom) Geen, Peggie (David) Elam, Marianne (Craig) Minnis; uncle of numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephew.; and godfather to Brooke Kapanowski, Augustus Pastore, and Mark Minnis. Visitation will be Saturday March 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Memorial Mass being held at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 428 North Second Street, Rockford, Illinois 61107.
