Earl Johnson Obituary

Earl E. Johnson went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2011, at the age of 84, from a stroke. Earl was born on July 23, 1926 in Rockford, IL. He graduated from East High School. He was in the Army during World War II, stationed out of Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was discharged in 1946. He worked at National Lock Company and retired from there after 48 years. Earl was a roller skater and that is how he met his wife, Gwen. They were married November 8, 1958 and honeymooned in Miami Beach, FL and returned for 13 years after that. They were wonderful dancers. Earl and Gwen traveled all over the United States and Canada by car and motor coach. They were known as "The Twins" because when you saw one, you saw the other. Earl was an avid sports fan, especially for the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was an excellent chef for his family and friends. After Earl retired they became "snowbirds" in Winter Haven, FL. They took a cruise every year for 15 years. Earl is survived by his wife, Gwen, and sweetheart of 52 years; daughter, Phyllis (Douglas) DeGrave of Lincoln, NE; son, Curtis (Georgia) Johnson of Simpsonville, SC; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, a brother Les (Carol) Johnson, Rockford, IL, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and son, Bob.
