Doris Mae Fant, 100, of Rockford, Illinois, died on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, in the loving care of her family and a team of compassionate caregivers. She was born on October 18th, 1924, in Sycamore, Illinois, to Edwin and Anna (Phillips) Fant.
She attended Sycamore Elementary School and graduated from Belvidere High School class of 1942. After graduation, she studied business at Browns Business College in Rockford, emphasizing secretarial skills. She retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield after 35 years of service as Executive Secretary.
Doris was blessed with a sharp mind and a gentle quiet spirit, which she possessed right up to the end of life. She was a talented seamstress making many of her own clothing items. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved nature and growing vegetables and flowers. During her life, she and her sister traveled extensively around the United States and Canada, taking numerous train and bus trips. When the family reunion dinner gathers in the Great Beyond, she will be sure to bring her award-winning pumpkin pie.
She is preceded by parents Edwin and Anna Fant, and sister Barbara Fant.
Survivors include: Linda and Roger Arnold and Patricia and Greg Larson.
The family would like to thank her caregiving team of Kimberly, Sarah, Amy, Jody, and Hannah for their professional and compassionate care. Also, for the assistance and guidance of Dawn and Shana of Mercy Hospice.
The Funeral arrangements are at Sundberg Funeral Home, Rockford, IL. Short visit from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday, April 21st. Burial to be at Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
