Donald R. Poshka, (84), of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on June 16.
Donald was born on September 29, 1937, to John and Olga Poshka. He worked various jobs until joining the US Army and serving in the Cuban Missel Crisis in 1962. He joined the Rockford Fire Department in 1966 and served the city as a firefighter for over 26 years; with many of those years served on Ladder 2 the “backbone of fire department.” Donald’s long career in the department served as inspiration for his son, Jeff, and grandson, Adam, following in his footsteps.
In his retirement he enjoyed time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchild, golfing and traveling the country with his wife.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, and his sons Tim (Eva) and Jeff (Penny). Brother-in-law Rich (Cindy) Livingston. Grandchildren Brian (Shane), Emily, Adam (Kelsea), Brittaney, Sean, and Kayla. Great-grandchild David Rasmussen. His best buddy Clark Byington and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and his youngest son, Brian.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, at 1pm, at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N Sixth Street, Rockford, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11am – 1pm. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL, or the Rockford Firefighters Relief Association.
