Donald Frank Lund

Donald Frank Lund of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2022, at the age of 89 after a brief illness.

Don was born on July 29, 1933, in Rockford to Wilbur and Ruby (Fagerstrom) Lund.  The youngest of six children, he attended East High School and later earned his GED.  He worked 31 years at Sundstrand Aviation, retiring in 1986.

In his early years, he sold newspapers on the street, enjoyed boxing in the local gyms, and set pins at the neighborhood bowling alley.  He met Ardith Teeters in 1951, and they were married the following year on June 28, 1952.  Their life together lasted seventy years and was blessed with four children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Don was a lover of American history, especially of the Old West.  Many of the family vacations centered on historic towns, parks, and cemeteries.  He loved old movies, especially those starring John Wayne!   A diehard Chicago Cubs fan, he was thrilled with their 2016 World Series win.  In his later years, he was an avid Tai Chi student at Rock Valley College and was able to attend classes through much of this year!  He also enjoyed working in his yard, watching golf and cooking shows on television, and buying scratch off tickets.  He would always say that he never won, but that Ardith always did!

Don was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Kenneth, Lois, Dorothy, Evelyn, and Doloris.  He is survived by his wife, Ardith; his son Donald; his daughters; Cathy (Stewart) Magnuson, Cindy (Peter) Buffo and Joan (Alex) Colombi; grandchildren Brian (Keely), Jill (Brandon), Little Alex, Sarah (fiancé Ryan), Michael (fiancé Jessika), Dominic and Christina; great grandchildren Jack, Ava, Ben, Sabrina, Natasha, and Frank.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16th, at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N. 6th St. in Rockford, Illinois.  There will be a private funeral service at a later date.  Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barbara Olson Center of Hope, 3206 N. Central Ave., Rockford, Illinois 61101.
