David Smith Obituary

David A. Smith, 79, of rural Chana, IL. Passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2020 at OSF Hospital, Rockford, IL.

David was born in Chicago, IL. On May 10th, 1940 John A. and Eleanor (Harder) Smith. He graduated from Antioch High School, in Antioch, IL., and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an avid environmentalist and outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking and gardening and is favorite pastime was reading. David was remembered as an activist, “The Vigilante” a.k.a. “The Manure Man.”

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Smith of rural Chana, IL., Son, David C. Smith of Harmon, IL., Stepson, Todd Tewksbury of Poplar Grove, IL., Granddaughter, Lindsey Smith, Moline, IL., Grandson, Dalton Smith, Dixon, IL., and a great granddaughter & great grandson of Moline, IL,.

Three Sisters, Judy Da Dante, Laramie, Wyoming., Barbara Lass, Fox Lake, IL., Kathy DeMith, Lake Villa, IL., Brother, Robert (Bob) Smith, Saratoga, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, a son, Glenn S. Smith, Scottsdale, Arizona.

No service will be held.
