Daniel Figiel

Daniel “Dan” Figiel age 85 of Rockford, Illinois died on Tuesday in the care of his family. He was born July 15, 1936, to Michael and Wanda Figiel in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Our Lady of Victory grade school, Fenwick High School, Loras College and Loyola University where he received his master’s degree in social work. He married Paula Armstrong on June 1, 1959. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Dan spent his life caring for Polly, his children, grandchildren, and his beloved pets. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors, golfing, horse racing, the tranquility of his yard, Chicago and Mafia history, The Cubs and The Bears but most of all spending time at home with Polly.

He is survived by his children: Lynn (Tim) Van Alstine, John (Peggy) Figiel, Jim (Donna) Figiel, Jane (Doug) Armitage, Peter (Robin) Figiel, Tom Figiel, and Maria Krueger. Eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister, Son-in Law Doug Krueger, and loving wife Polly Figiel.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford, Illinois-June 20, 2022, at 11:00 am. A visitation begins at 10:00am. Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 North Sixth Street, Rockford, Illinois is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Alzheimer's Association.
