Charles Kaplan Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Kaplan, 82, passed away Thursday morning, May 5, 2011 in his home. Born Feb. 24, 1929 in Chicago, the son of Nathan and Evelyn (Zweig) Kaplan. Served in the US Navy. Graduated from Sullivan High School and attended Roosevelt University. He was the former Vice Pres. of Marketing, Consumer Products Div. of Chemway Corp. 1952-1964, Vice Pres. & Director of Sales with Associated Products 1964-1970, Pres. and Director with ADMAR, Inc. 1970-1971, Chairman and Pres. of Chark Corp. 1972-1976, Pres. and Director of W.T. Rawleigh Co., Inc. and later owner of a number of fast-food restaurants. Chuck married the former Milly Hertz in Rockford on May 28, 1978. He was a member, Past Pres., and Board Member of Temple Beth-El, and a Board Member of Rockford Jewish Federation. Chuck was a devoted member of YMCA and was an avid reader. He and Milly also enjoyed traveling and the theater. He is survived by his devoted wife, Milly, daughters Lauren (James) Savage of Mountain Lakes, NJ, and Allison (James) Collins of Ellisville, MO, a son, Kenneth Kaplan of Andover, NJ, grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, and Olivia Savage, Samantha and Jacob Collins, and Ashley Kaplan. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Karen Kaplan, and sister, Carole Chandler.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Temple Beth-El, 1203 Comanche Dr., Rockford, with Rabbi Binah Wing officiating. Burial will be in Rockford Hebrew Cemetery. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL. Online condolences can be made at www.sundbergfh.com.
