Bertha M. Pappas, 84, passed away at home at 6:43 a.m., Sunday, June 23, 2013. She was born Oct. 24, 1928 in Rockford, the daughter of Theodore and Lucia (Den Tant) Picavet. She graduated from East High School. Bertha was formerly employed by Illinois Bell for 20 years and later worked as a switchboard operator for Rockford Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She married Tassius W. Pappas in November of 1950. He predeceased her July 17, 2012. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Linda), William (Angie), James (Jacki), John, Robert (Cindy), Gerald (Kendal), and Edward; many grandchildren, including a special grandson, "Nickie"; her great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, including Linda and Mary; and special brother-in-law, "Rogo." She was predeceased by her 3 sisters and parents.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 201 Buckbee St., Rockford. Burial will follow in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford.
