Aracelio Nieves Cruz, April 15, 1956 - January 19, 2026. With deep sadness and sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. Aracelio Nieves Cruz (Celin), at the age of 69, on January 19, 2026, at his home in Rockford, Illinois. Born on April 15, 1956, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Félix Nieves and Anatolia Cruz. He married Mrs. Josefa Vega Barrera in April 1977 in Maricao, Puerto Rico, where they had five wonderful children. He was a skilled craftsman and an excellent farmer. He made the best pitorro (a type of moonshine) in western Puerto Rico. He leaves behind a great legacy of love and respect for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children Félix Nieves Vega, Carlos Nieves Vega, Ana Nieves Vega, Julio Nieves Vega, and Raúl Nieves Vega; his 10 grandchildren; and his siblings Miguel Nieves Cruz, Juan Nieves Cruz, Mery Nieves Cruz, and Luis Nieves Cruz. His wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and other relatives deeply mourn his passing. His remains will lie in state at Sundberg Funeral Home in Rockford, Illinois, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for those who wish to pay their respects during this difficult time. He will then be cremated according to his wishes.

Con profunda tristeza y pesar, anunciamos el fallecimiento del Sr. Aracelio Nieves Cruz (Celin), a la edad de 69 años, el 19 de enero de 2026, en su domicilio en Rockford, Illinois. Nacido el 15 de abril de 1956 en Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Hijo de los difuntos Félix Nieves y Anatolia Cruz. Unió su vida a la de la Sra. Josefa Vega Barrera en abril de 1977 en Maricao, Puerto Rico, donde procrearon 5 hijos maravillosos. Fue un gran artesano y un excelente agricultor. Hacía el mejor pitorro del área Oeste de Puerto Rico. Deja un gran legado de amor y respeto en sus hijos y nietos. Le sobreviven sus hijos Félix Nieves Vega, Carlos Nieves Vega, Ana Nieves Vega, Julio Nieves Vega y Raúl Nieves Vega, sus 10 nietos y sus hermanos Miguel Nieves Cruz, Juan Nieves Cruz, Mery Nieves Cruz y Luis Nieves Cruz. Su esposa, hijos, nietos, hermanos y demás familiares lamentan profundamente su fallecimiento. Sus restos serán expuestos en la funeraria Sundberg Funeral Home en Rockford, Illinois el sábado, 24 de enero de 2026 desde las 4:00pm hasta las 6:00pm para quienes deseen acompañarnos en este triste momento y luego será cremados según fueran sus deseos.
