ROCKFORD - Alphonse "Al" Johanning, 87, died at 12:10 p.m., Tues., August 10, 2010 in his home. Born Jan. 7, 1923, the son of Gerhard and Mary (Munz) Johanning. Attended Highland, WI schools. Veteran of the US Army, serving in the European Theater. Married Mildred "Millie" Midtskog in Rockford on Apr. 28, 1951. She predeceased him May 12, 2007. He was co-owner of Mandt Brake for over 50 years. Member of Lyran and Harmony Singing Societies.
Survivors include: niece, Victoria (Jerry) Raatz, nephews, Randy Holmes and James Holmes, niece, Janice (Dr. William) Acker, great-nephew, Dan Raatz, great-niece, Rebecca (Travis) Renner, good friends, Al Anglmier, and Dave Smith. Special thanks to Dennis and Jane Little and Ruth Lindgren for their care for Al over the past few years. Predeceased by parents and a sister Mary L. Holmes.
