Alma Beatriz Hernandez Magallon

Alma Vela, de 54 años, falleció el domingo 16 de junio de 2024, en el hospital OSF St. Anthony, rodeada de su amorosa familia. Nació el 18 de agosto de 1969, en Guadalajara, Jalisco, hija de Candido Hernández Torres y María Del Carmen Magallón Pérez. 

Alma era una católica devota que participaba en el coro. Le encantaba bailar ballet folclórico, nadar y jugar al voleibol en el Club Atlas. Disfrutaba pasar tiempo con su familia, que incluía a 11 hermanas y 2 hermanos. Alma heredó su amor por el canto de su padre, quien era músico local y solía hacer que sus hijos cantaran en reuniones familiares. 

A los 13 años, conoció a Genaro Vela, se casaron a los 17 años y estuvieron casados durante 37 años. De Mexico se mudaron a Williams, California, en 1980. Cuando comenzó a tener insuficiencia renal, se mudaron a Rockford, Illinois, en el 2001 con la esperanza de recibir un trasplante de riñón. En 2004, recibió un trasplante de riñón de su “ángel” Theresa. En 2008, fue diagnosticada con linfoma, lo que la dejó semi-paralizada en el lado izquierdo. Ocho años después del trasplante de riñón, volvió a tener insuficiencia renal. Alma soportó 20 años de diálisis y otros tratamientos, y ahora ya descansa.  

Amigos y seres queridos siempre recordarán su espíritu luchador y su inmensa alegría. Sus porras en los partidos de fútbol y su canto apasionado en las reuniones familiares la hicieron inolvidable. La extrañaremos muchisimo. 

Le sobreviven sus hijos Jesús, Gerardo, Guillermo, Ricardo, Miguel y su amoroso esposo Genaro.  

El legado de Alma seguirá brillando a través de los recuerdos de aquellos a quienes la conocieron y el amor que compartió. La vida de Alma Vela fue un tapiz tejido con amor, resiliencia y momentos apreciados. 

Alma Vela, age 54, died on Sunday, June 16th, 2024, at OSF St. Anothony Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 18th, 1969, in Guadalajara, Jalisco to Candido Hernández Torres and Maria Del Carmen Magallon Pérez. 

Alma was a devout catholic who was involved in the choir. She loved dancing ballet folclórico, swimming, and playing volleyball at Club Atlas. She enjoyed spending time with her family, which includes 11 sisters and 2 brothers. Alma got her love of singing from her dad who was a local musician. At family gatherings, he would have his children sing and perform.  

She met Genero Vela at 13 years old, got married at 17 years old, and was married for 37 years. From Mexico, they moved to Williams, California in 1980. When she began to experience kidney failure, they then moved to Rockford, Illinois in 2001 in hopes of receiving a kidney transplant. She received her kidney transplant in 2004 from her “angel” Theresa. She was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2008 leaving her semi-paralyzed on her left side. 8 years after receiving her kidney transplant, she began to experience kidney failure shortly after. Alma endured 20 years of dialysis and other treatments, and now she rests.  

Friends and loved ones will always remember her fighting spirit and immense joy. Her cheering at soccer games and sang her heart out. Alma was a friend to everyone and brightened up every room she was in. She will be terribly missed.  

She is survived by: Sons Jesus, Gerardo, Guillermo, Ricardo, Miguel, and her loving husband Genaro.  

Alma’s legacy will continue to shine through the memories of those she created and the love she shared. Alma Vela’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and cherished moments.
