Olga Horowy Obituary

Olga Horowy, 88, died peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Morning Star Village, Rockford, IL. Born on July 24, 1928 in Gniezdzilowo, Poland. Daughter of Lukasz and Claudia (Paskifwicz) Kowel. Olga suffered extreme hardships in her youth, imprisoned and in forced labor in Germany during WWII. Following the war, she met and married Timofiej (Tim) Horowy and had their first child, Raisa, who was born in 1949, in Cham, Germany. They immigrated to America via Ellis Island, in 1950. Sponsored by Church World Services, the family lived near Roanoke, VA and worked on a farm until moving to Rockford, IL where they began their lives as new American immigrants. Tim worked as a machinist at Rockford Screw Products while Olga was a lifelong homemaker. Olga and Tim were part of a community of founding and lifelong members of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in Rockford. She loved and provided as she could, loving her family, church and country. We look back with many memories, as you will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, John Horowy of Rockford, IL; daughter, Raisa (Mike) Morris of Rockton, IL; grandson, Michael (Elisa Na) Morris of Crossroads, TX; granddaughter, Alisa (Ben) Wolf of Morrison, IL; great-grandsons, Brady Wolf of Morrison, IL; Jack Morris of Crossroads, TX; great-granddaughter, Maggie Morris of Crossroads, TX.

Visitation from 5 to 7p.m. Friday, April 21 in Sundberg Funeral Home, LTD., 215 N. Sixth St., with a memorial service following. The Funeral Liturgy will be served at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church, 1702 Pershing Ave, Rockford, IL. with Father Jonathan Bannon officiating. Internment at Greenwood Cemetery. The family invites friends to join us for a memorial luncheon following at the church. Special thanks to Teresa of Heartland Hospice and Megan, Sylvia, Beth, Lou and all those who had a special place in their hearts for Olga at Morning Star Village. Memorials to Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers.
