     Margo Jean Shifo, 65, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 at Serenity Home and Hospice in Oregon, IL after a long illness that she faced with dignity, grace and courage. She was born April 23, 1952, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Salamone) Shifo.

     Margo graduated from Rockford East High School class of 1970 and from Northern Illinois University in 1974 with a degree in Education. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Later she obtained a Master's Degree in Education and Administration from National Lewis University. Margo dedicated her life to Catholic Education. She began her teaching career in the Diocese of Rockford in 1975. She taught at St. Patrick's School for 17 years and served as principal for 4 years. She was then assigned to St. James' School in Rockford as principal for 10 years. Margo became principal at St. Edward's School for the next 5 years. She concluded her career in Catholic education as an Assistant Superintendent of the Rockford Diocesan Schools. She retired in April 2017. During her long career she touched many lives and always enjoyed hearing of past student's successes. She particularly enjoyed teaching the children of former students in her classrooms.

     Margo was a long time member of Holy Family Parish in Rockford. She served as President of Junior League of Rockford and was a board member of the Rockford Red Cross. Margo had a quick wit, an optimistic outlook and a wonderful sense of humor that remained until her passing. Family and friends were everything to Margo, especially her nieces and nephews. Her family will cherish the memories they created with her forever.

     She is survived by her brother, Thomas (Karen) Shifo of Belvidere, IL; nephew, David Shifo of Streamwood, IL; niece, Jennifer (James) McHale of Dublin, OH; great-niece, Kaitlyn McHale; great-nephews, James McHale and William McHale; as well as numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents.

    Visitation will be held in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, IL from 4 - 7 p.m., on Thursday, July 13, 2017 and from 9 - 9:45 a.m., on Friday, July 14, 2017 in the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, July 14, 2017, in Holy Family Catholic Church, with Fr. David Beauvais as celebrant. Internment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

     In honor of Margo's many years of dedication to Catholic education, the family has established the Margo J. Shifo Memorial for deserving students at Boylan Catholic High School.
