Fotia Matsakis, 90, formerly of Rockford passed away peacefully May 21, 2013. Born March 2, 1923 in Karpathos Greece, the daughter of Rev. Christ and Irene Kavallieros. She immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen and settled in Rockford where her father was the priest at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She married her childhood sweetheart Louis Matsakis on November 14, 1948, in Rockford, IL. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family and grandchildren, especially Manny, Elias and Fotini. Fotia was very passionate about enjoying life. She and Louis owned the Boston Restaurant on E. State St. for many years. Fotia was a former volunteer with Jenny Lind Society at SwedishAmerican Hospital. She was the kindest, most loving and compassionate mother anyone can ever have, without uttering a harsh word ever about anyone. May her memory be eternal.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are, her daughter, Irene Matsakis (Dimitrios) Litos , Farmington, CT. son George (JoAnn) Matsakis. Grandchildren, Manny Litos, Elias (Calliope) Litos of Farmington, CT. Fotini Litos, of Ocean, NJ, Caterina, Elias, and Lee Matsakis of Rockford.Three adoring great- grandchildren, Irini Lambrinos, Dimitris and Alexandra-Maria Litos.
Private funeral services with burial in Greenwood Cemetery were entrusted to Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth Street, Rockford, Illinois 61107. A special thank you to Darryl and his wonderful staff for their compassion and help during this difficult time.
